How I Met Your MotherThe show was created by Craig Thomas and Carter Bays. As a framing device, the main character, Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor, with narration by Bob Saget)[2], in the year 2030 recounts to his son and daughter the events that led to his meeting their mother, which explains the title and allows for a narration in the past tense. How I Met Your Mother's other main characters are Marshall Eriksen (Jason Segel), Robin Scherbatsky (Cobie Smulders), Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris), and Lily Aldrin (Alyson Hannigan).

Theodore "Ted" Evelyn Mosby is the main character in the sitcom How I Met Your Mother. He is portrayed by Josh Radnor, with Bob Saget serving as a "Future Ted" who narrates the story to his kids. Ted, the central character of the show, is from Shaker Heights, Ohio, and is a Wesleyan University graduate and an architect who, according to Barney, thinks too much. After his best friend Marshall becomes engaged, Ted decides to try and find his soulmate. Prone to socially questionable romantic gestures, he steals a blue French horn  that was a topic of conversation in his first date with Robin

Barnabus "Barney" Stinson (Born 1975) is one of Ted Mosby's closest friends. As a matter of fact, Barney often insists that he is in fact Ted's best friend, despite Ted's often denials. What Barney does for a living is unclear, all that is known is that he works for the AltruCell Corporation, which owns Goliath National Bank. Barney is a womanizer, and has a negative view on relationships, dating and marriage, as well as commitment in general. The group often finds the lies he tells women to get into bed, and the things he does to them are appalling.

Lily Aldrin is the wife of Marshall Eriksen and the best friend of Robin Scherbatsky, as well as one of Ted Mosby's oldest friends, knowing him and Marshall since college. She works as a kindergarten teacher and is also an amateur painter. She is virtually incapable of keeping any secret, except the one of Barney's true feelings for Robin; she tells every group member except Robin this secret.
