Take the action from the greatest football leagues around the world, add the best tournaments on earth, mix it up with some local flavour, colour and most of all atmosphere and you get Channel 4's GOALISSIMO, the one way ticket to football heaven!
Each week we spin across Europe to revel in great goals, features, highlights and interviews from the major football leagues. We samba on down to South America to find out what’s happening in the Latino leagues. Zooming across to Africa we check out how the host countries are preparing for the 2010 World Cup and beyond. Our journey also takes us east to tale a look at the rising stars of Asian soccer. In addition to the pick of the top leagues, we also bring you the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Cup.
GOALISSIMO travels to the four corners of the globe delivering news, views and goals, goals, goals!
The show covers action in the top leagues in England, France, Spain, Germany, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Portugal, Scotland, South America, Turkey and Africa. It also shows the best action from the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Cup. It also features a gaffe of the week, such as misses, miskicks and goalkeeping errors and a goal of the week which is usually introduced by Nick Halling as 'from the maligned to the sublime' or something along those lines. As Premier League and La Liga broadcasting rights are not owned by Channel 4, still images from the games that fade in and out with each other are used instead, with voice-over commentary and a bongo-drum based soundtrack.
The programme is narrated by Nick Halling, but Andy Ford, Simon Golding and John Roder have deputised. Both Roder and Halling together narrate the show. The commentators were Ross Dyer and Garry Barfoot, but Andy Ford has commentated before. Dyer no longer features, both Roder and Barfoot commentate now. Barfoot is also the producer and translator.
