After 27 years filming, ITV1’s longest running cop show THE BILL called its last ever ‘wrap’ when the final scene was shot on Monday 14th June 2010. All 17 cast - Simon Rouse, Alex Walkinshaw, Andrew Lancel, Sam Callis, Lucy Speed, Chris Fox, Micah Balfour, Patrick
Robinson, Amita Dhiri, Sally Rogers, Rhea Bailey, Bruce Byron, Chris Simmons, Dominic Power, John Bowler, Sarah Manners and Jason Barnett were present to be part of the final day’s shoot at talkbackTHAMES Merton Studios, home of the legendary ‘Sun Hill’ set.
The series originated from a pilot called WOODEN TOP, which was created by Geoff McQueen, and first broadcast in August 1983 on ITV1. A commission for a serial drama as a result of this called THE BILL followed, which launched on the channel in October 1984.
Over the years, the series has evolved and reinvented itself, all the time reflecting the ways in which British Policing has changed.
The award winning series has gone on to be home to a wealth of acting talent, for both regular cast members as well as a whole host of guest roles. The series has also become reknowned for being a training ground for British TV talent both on and off screen.
The series will conclude with a gritty and poignant two-parter and will transmit later this month on ITV1. The final episode’s storyline will showcase THE BILL’s ability to tell hard hitting stories about the reality of policing modern day Britain and will centre on the life of a young female gang member.
THE BILL’s Executive Producer Johnathan Young commented: ‘The series will conclude this summer with a compelling contemporary story that tests our cops on the streets of London both physically and emotionally for one final time. It's called 'Respect' and we hope it will respect the heritage of the show.'
The final two-parter is due to transmit in August 2010 (dates/times tbc) on ITV1.
THE BILL is a talkbackTHAMES production for ITV1.
