SKY MOVIES AND SKY1 EXCLUSIVELY ROLL OUT THE RED CARPET FOR THE 81ST ANNUAL ACADEMY AWARDS

Sky Movies Premiere announce today (Thursday 22nd January 2009) that THE 81st ANNUAL ACADEMY AWARDS® will return to the channel for the fifth consecutive year. Televised live from the Kodak Theatre in LA on Sunday 22 February 2009, the event will be available in high definition for the second time to Sky HD subscribers. Hosted once again by Claudia Winkleman, the ceremony promises to make gripping viewing, with surprise wins, sore losers and tearful acceptance speeches adding drama to the glitz and glamour of the event.
Prior to the ceremony you can catch OSCARS® RED CARPET LIVE on Sky1 and Sky1 HD during which we will be chatting to the stars on the red carpet throughout the build-up. Tune in to enjoy the dazzling designer dresses and see for yourself who turns up with whom as Sky1’s LA host grabs exclusive interviews with the stars about their outfits, party plans and award predictions.
Sky Movies Premiere will be covering the live ceremony from 1am with the main event kicking off at 1.30am. Here in our London Studios, Claudia Winkleman will be joined throughout the programme by experts who’ll be passing judgement on the winners, losers and surprises. Plus, Sky Movies will also be celebrating the Academy Awards with the biggest Oscar-winning season on TV, from the 1 – 28 February. The season will include 90 film titles and will also be available in HD.
Claudia Winkleman said: "The best night of the calendar is Oscar night. I get very over excited watching the super stars glide down the red carpet and then love the awards themselves. For those viewers unable to watch the live ceremony, Sky1 and Sky1 HD will broadcast a 60-minute OSCARS 2009: THE HIGHLIGHTS show, which will include pre-awards chat with the stars as they arrive on the red carpet plus a few words with the winners, losers and party goers as they continue celebrating and commiserating into the early hours.
