Sky1 celebrates the thrill of record breaking with GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS SMASHED an exciting 60-minute special that salutes the ‘have-a-go’ spirit and reinvents the global phenomenon of record breaking. Enthusiastic members of the public and equally keen celebs attempt world record challenges to secure their place in the celebrated tome.
Hosts Ben Shephard and Fearne Cotton will present in the round, in front of a live studio audience who will also take part in a surprise mass record attempt. GWRS will turn existing records on their heads in a series of high-jeopardy, big-scale challenges alongside the funny and totally bizarre. Not to be outdone, Ben and Fearne go head-to-head with a dynamic reverse bungee challenge that will see them catapulted over 100ft above London. But which one of them will become the new world record holder?
GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS SMASHED throws down the gauntlet to ‘ordinary Joes’ and elite athletes all willing to attempt extraordinary feats, from tests of strength and dare-devil antics, to everyday occurrences and the oddly engaging. Every challenge is performed under the watchful gaze of Guinness Director of Records, Marco Frigatti armed with his trusty stopwatch and an eye for precision.
Singer Duncan James has a case of ‘here come the girls’ for his stunning challenge while Justin Hawkins, former front-man of The Darkness raises the roof in his own inimitable way. The high-octane show features a heady mix of original and innovative ideas including world class power stilting, speedy outfit-changes, incredible fire stunts and football prowess all spurred on by the excited studio audience.
Fearne Cotton described the show as ‘Competitive, exciting and funny,’ adding: ‘There hasn't been a show like this in the UK for years so it felt natural. It's an exciting project to be a part of; it's got a competitive edge and the weird factor.’
Ben Shephard added: ‘The Guinness Book was always one of those things that you got at Christmas, pouring through it, finding out about all these crazy people doing even crazier stunts. It's an extraordinary challenge for people to try and break records, and it's something that you'll always have. The originality and invention astounds me!’
