It stars Colin Farrell as the ambitious Greek ruler, who seizes the crown of Macedonia after his father, King Philip (Val Kilmer) is murdered. Spurred on by his mother Olympias (Angelina Jolie), Alexander and his powerful army go on to conquer most of the known world by the age of 25, including the mighty Persian and Egyptian empires. The incomparable military leader blazes an 11-year trail across what are now known as Asia, the Middle East, Europe and North Africa, before dying of illness aged just 33.

He’s helped in his quest for world domination by bosom buddy Hephaistion (Jared Leto), and somewhat hindered by his fiery Asian bride Roxanne (Rosario Dawson).

Alexander, which is directed and co-written by Oliver Stone, also stars Anthony Hopkins, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Christopher Plummer.
